Weather Data Mural – Private Residence
This custom mural was created for a friend’s home, transforming a soaring 15-foot wall into a luminous, one-of-a-kind artwork. The wall’s scale and openness demanded a design that would both anchor the space and create a sense of lightness—a balancing act that led me to a floating, cloud-like composition. The forms were generated using weather data from my friend’s birth date and location, a process I often use to weave personal history into visual form. This data, translated into curving, organic shapes, became the structural rhythm of the mural. Rather than presenting the data in a literal way, I allowed it to inform the flow and spacing of the elements, giving the piece both a scientific underpinning and an emotional resonance unique to its owner. The color palette was chosen in collaboration with my friend, reflecting her love of rich, grounding hues with a hint of opulence: soft teal greens and deep navies layered with luminous gold accents. The gold catches the light throughout the day, shifting from subtle warmth in the morning to a glowing highlight in the evening, adding a living quality to the wall. Executed entirely by hand, the mural’s painterly textures bring depth and dimension to the cloud forms, allowing them to drift visually across the wall. The result is a piece that feels expansive yet serene, infusing the room with an atmosphere of calm movement. Beyond its visual beauty, this mural serves as a deeply personal marker—an artwork anchored in a specific moment and place in time, yet expansive enough to feel timeless. It stands as an example of how my data-driven process can be adapted to large-scale, site-specific works that harmonize with the architecture and life of a space.
