Created for a private residence, this site-specific mural translates weather data into a large-scale architectural artwork.
The forms were generated using weather conditions recorded on the homeowner's birth date and location. Rather than visualizing the information literally, I abstracted the data into organic, cloud-like shapes—a process I use throughout my practice to transform quantitative information into a starting point for visual exploration.
At 15 feet high, the architecture required the work to operate differently from my smaller wall-based pieces. Individual data forms were expanded, separated and composed directly in relation to the proportions of the wall, allowing the artwork to move through the space rather than exist within the boundaries of a conventional support.
The palette was developed in conversation with the homeowner, combining teal and deep navy with areas of metallic gold. Changes in natural and artificial light alter the reflective surfaces throughout the day, introducing another shifting atmospheric element to the work.
The project became an exploration of scale and site-specific translation: testing how the visual language developed through my studio practice could expand into an architectural environment while remaining connected to its original data source. It demonstrated that the methodology behind the work is not dependent on a particular object, material or scale. The data can instead become a framework—one that can respond to a specific person, place and physical environment.
