For Pocket Art Machine, I created a small edition of Atmos Studies—handmade sculptural air fresheners that translate the cloud-like forms recurring throughout my practice into functional, accessible objects.
Each piece combines layered wood and industrial felt, with the felt holding a few drops of essential oil. The forms draw from my ongoing interest in weather systems, atmospheric conditions and the ways environmental phenomena can be abstracted into shape, material and sensory experience.
Presented through repurposed vending machines, Pocket Art Machine places small-format original artworks by Calgary artists into unexpected, everyday settings. The project offered an opportunity to explore scale, accessibility and the artist multiple: taking a visual language normally encountered as sculpture, installation or gallery work and reducing it into an object that can be purchased spontaneously and carried into someone’s daily life.
Atmos Studies also extends the work beyond the purely visual. Scent, touch, material and function become part of the experience, turning a miniature atmospheric form into something that is encountered repeatedly over time.
