Acrylic, resin/wall sculpture

Created to commemorate a 20-year wedding anniversary, Ascent uses temperature data from the couple’s first month of marriage as the starting point for a sculptural portrait of their life together.

The data was abstracted into the organic forms that recur throughout my practice, then composed to evoke a shared connection to family and the outdoors. Curving shapes suggest mountain slopes, lakes, treetops and rolling snow—references to years spent hiking, skiing and building a life together.

The warm, mountain-inspired palette also connects the work to the landscape surrounding their original wedding venue and the character of their home.

Rather than using data to document a single moment literally, Ascent uses it as a framework for something more subjective. The exuberant curves, layered forms and shifting surfaces are intended to convey warmth, joy and connection, transforming one month of recorded weather into a reflection on twenty years of shared experience.
