“Where Can I See Your Work?” (And Other FAQs)
Where can I see your work? How do you translate the data? Do you do commissions?
These are some of the most common questions I get—and if you’ve been wondering the same, I’d love to connect. Let’s break it down.
Where can I see your work?
If you follow me on Instagram, you’ve probably seen me mention how hard my work is to photograph. Most art is better in person, but mine takes that to another level. I use reflective surfaces, metallics, and materials that shift colour based on lighting and viewing angle. It’s dynamic and immersive—but it doesn’t translate well to a screen.
That’s why I’m always happy to arrange private viewings here in Calgary. While I self-represent in Alberta and don’t currently have gallery representation here, I do have a large collection installed at Shag salon on 17th Ave. You’re welcome to drop in and take a look—the team doesn’t mind. And if you’d prefer a more guided experience, I offer private tours and am more than happy to walk you through the work, share the stories behind each piece, and explain how the data informs the design.
If that sounds like your kind of afternoon, just email me. I’ll gladly set aside an hour to chat and show you around.
How do you translate data into your work?
This one’s both easy and layered. I spent years in visual communications and graphic design, where I translated complex data into simple, compelling visuals. I pushed clients—especially accountants—to think beyond basic charts and tell better stories. If I couldn’t understand it, neither could investors.
Now, I use those same skills to tell stories through sculpture.
Most of my work begins with climate data. Specifically, I focus on temperature records tied to dramatic weather events. I take a full month of data surrounding that event—usually represented in coloured bar charts—and begin to draw over it, connecting blocks of colour into fluid, organic shapes.
Then I digitize those shapes, refine them, and build compositions. The original data disappears in the process, but the form remains rooted in it—transformed, abstracted, and reimagined. I like to think of it as visual storytelling through a game of telephone: each phase changes the message slightly, but the core truth is still there.
Every decision—from shape to scale to materials—is made before I ever step into the studio. It’s more like architectural design than traditional painting: meticulous, layered, and fully mapped before fabrication begins.
Do you do commissions?
Absolutely.
Commissions are a great way to bring your own story into the work. For individuals, I can translate data from a time and place that holds personal meaning. For example: the temperature data from the week your child was born, or the month you got married.
If that sounds too custom, you can also choose from my catalogue of unproduced designs and tailor the colour palette and budget to suit your needs.
For corporate clients, the options go even further. I can incorporate company history, sustainability goals, or meaningful locations into the design. The final result is more than custom—it’s a unique, data-driven reflection of your brand or story.
